As one class period ended, our English class began. Just as our English teacher opened the book, our sports teacher suddenly entered the classroom holding a notice. He announced:
“This is to inform all students that the National Children’s Award 2013, organized in Narsingdi Sadar, Narsingdi, will be held soon. Events include running, swimming, kabaddi, javelin throw, and many other sports. Interested students are requested to meet me after class.”
After school, I met the teacher and expressed my interest. He smiled and said,
“Usually, the first boy of the class doesn’t show much interest in sports.”
I confidently replied,
“Sir, I really love sports.”
I then registered for running and swimming. In the swimming competition, I participated in the 100-meter freestyle event along with students from more than 15 schools, and I proudly secured first place.
However, while diving into the pool, I unknowingly injured my foot on something sharp. I did not notice it at first, but my teacher did. I was immediately taken to the hospital and given primary medical treatment.
A few days later, I, along with my teacher and other winning students from our school, attended the prize distribution ceremony at the District Sports Office. There, I received my award and certificate from the Honorable District Commissioner (DC) and shook hands with him. When I stepped onto the stage, my heart was pounding with excitement—a moment I will never forget. If my foot had not been injured, I believe I could have also won first prize in the running event. That feeling of missing out later became a source of motivation, inspiring me to strive for greater achievements. The following year, I prepared myself with even more dedication and effort.
